Snipped from Trains Newswire:

CHICAGO – The newly formed Tom E. Dailey Foundation Inc. is making available railroad heritage grants of up to $15,000 for projects promoting railroad heritage, history, or preservation. Dailey, a senior executive in the payment processing industry for nearly 30 years, said the foundation was created in December 2012 through a $1 million endowment. Dailey is currently CEO of 2Checkout.com, a global payments processor for e-commerce websites.

The grants are available to organizations that promote the history of railroads, operate historic trains or equipment, or provide other historic rail-related activities. To be considered for a grant, organizations must demonstrate that they are a registered nonprofit entity located within the United States. Grants cannot be made to individual persons. The grants are available in amounts of $1,000 to $15,000. The foundation’s board of directors generally meets on a quarterly basis to make decisions on grant awards, and plans to award up to $100,000 annually in grants.

This is great news for groups in the US.

Grants in the specified range may not build car barns, but the could be great as seed money toward big projects- and just think how many smaller restorations, professional architectural designs, site improvements, display developments, and staff/ volunteer training sessions these could make possible! Grants of this nature could make all the difference in the world to smaller organizations and projects.

Congratulations to Mr. Dailey. It'll be great seeing all the projects his foundation assists in the future!

SHELBURNE FALLS TROLLEY MUSEUM GETS TWO GRANTS
Shelburne Falls, MA
The Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum's Car Barn fund is $5500 richer this month thanks to two railroad heritage grants. The non-profit all-volunteer museum was awarded one of five nation-wide grants for $2500 from the newly-formed Dailey Foundation. Then the Amherst Railway Society awarded another $3000 as part of its huge annual railroad heritage grant program.

"This gives a sizable boost to our efforts to build a fire-resistant Car Barn for storing our restored trolley No. 10 in", said president Sam Bartlett.
"Once built, our Car Barn will also give us space for restoring another car, the Fitchburg and Leominster Street Railway No. 60, similar to No. 10 but more elaborately detailed inside. This carbody will be given to us once we have the car barn completed to keep the new car under cover as well."

The museum plans to start work on the trackwork and foundation work for the car barn in the spring.

The Dailey Foundation makes donations to humanities organizations in the Mid-west, and to railroad heritage groups nation-wide. The Amherst Railway Society makes many grants in the $1000 range and one at $10,000 annually to mostly northeastern railroad museums and related organizations. The Society puts on the Big Railroad Hobby Show in West Springfield, MA each January and distributes the proceeds in the form of these grants.

Hats off to a new source of support for our community. Tom E. Dailey Foundation Inc. just announced their new grants for April. For those seeking funds for a project that can show results, the Dailey Foundation really provides a helping hand. The Colfax Railroad Museum received a grant for $2880 to acquire the display cases to house our new exhibit- Railroad Dining: An Age of Elegance. Our collection of over 2000+ pieces of dining car china will now have a safe, professional housing to highlight the the numerous significant settings we have. The new displays will also help free up space to assist in housing the large 250+ book collection donation that will be delivered this summer.

The Dailey Foundation has also given us a leg up $2,000 toward some of our promotional efforts in 2013. We'll be putting out a new, custom smartphone app and feature length documentary on the FWRHS/765.
