As I understand it, the main tramway system in Lisbon is the Carris railways. There is also a significant but smaller system operated by Sintra, which operates a very historic collection of equipment 40 minutes outside of Lisbon. Carris is 900mm gauge, a bit less than three foot gauge, and Sintra is 1000mm gauge. A user, Bill, at a yahoo group I created shared the links below, which I am passing along here. Enjoy...

Japan's Kinki Nippon Railway (aka Kintetsu) operates a 762mm (about 30 inches), 750v dc interurban line running 5.7 km. from Kintetsu Yokkaichi to Utsube. Kintetsu is making noises about wanting to replace the line with a busway. Traffic is light. Kintetsu is the largest private railway in Japan and operates 762mm, 1067mm and 1435mm lines.

I hosted a charter run on the Sintra line with a group when our cruise called at Lisbon. It is an amazing operation with extensive side of the road running using vintage Brill single truck open cars.
