I would not be surprised if a trucking to Strasburg happens in the future. I would imagine the price of a lowbed truck rental pales in comparison to the money they'll lose if the locomotive isn't up and running for the Gettysburg anniversary

Yeah, but did anyone check his pockets for coins with grease on them?
What would be modern version of that scene?
Man in charge: "Geez, these quarters have oil on them, you should have thrown them away."
Hogger: "Hey man, fifty cents is fifty cents..."

That might be more like "50 cent, is 50 cent"...... anyone? Nichinni gets it.

Anywho, anybody know the story on the converted flat cars? Where did they come from? Reader?

Cheers, Jason

But was it not "papa boule" with the reference to roundness? And yes, a franc is a franc....

Jason,

The converted flat cars are indeed Reader cars, currently borrowed from the Tavares, FL operation which is in its off season. The Reader is said to be constructing two similar cars for the 17 in Arkansas for delivery later the summer (?).

Has there been any word yet on what the problem was?
Let's hope they can get back in action soon. Lovely equipment!
Thank you.

So, Burt Lancaster poured a new babbitt insert and replaced it already?

From today, June 28, 2013:

Those passenger cars, at least from this angle, would look right behind Detroit & Lima Northern No. 7 (Henry Ford 4-4-0). . .

The cars pictured in the Facebook photo are the Tavares Eustis & Gulf coaches that are currently being leased. I will be interested to see the design of the 2 (or is it 3) coaches that are being built for the line at the Reader Railroad. I would think that if the new cars are being scratch-built, the design would be something closer to an 1860s-era coach, with a simpler arched roof. I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

The road also has this open car.

Commentary in other places on the line's Facebook page claims the trouble came from a link block.

Found a few photos of what are supposed to be the cars being built for the Northern Central:

Looks like they'll be using flatcar frames as the basis of these cars. It's notable that the car in this shot has arch bar trucks. I wonder what its history is.

The second post in the above linked thread reminds me, I understand the FRA has taken exception to the +40 year old converted freight cars. (Similar to issues regarding cabooses used for carrying passengers)

Has anyone heard of this?
