Thanks for posting the video. You're right, 3105 sounds tired, good amount of exhaust smoke and carbon when she throttles up. But she'll be quite an asset to the Rail Giants
Museum.

They might send 844 to pick her up from Colton.

I can definitely see why they didn't bring 844 to pull 4014 out on to live rail. For the move to Colton, well, I'm told high-capacity/extended range dynamic brakes are nice to have with a big load in tow at low speeds.

According to former UP steam crew member Bob Krieger, currently 4-8-4 844 has the tubes and superheater units removed for inspection and repair. No chance it would have gone to California to retrieve #4014.

Yep, if you drive between Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon, you drive right by her. I was shocked to find UP 844 as I was driving past that location back in 2008 on my way to ride steam to 'the big ditch'...
