This is actually the TRRA shop in Madison, Ill. The Madison yard is just north of the shop complex in the picture. Below is a link to the B&O roundhouse in East St. Louis, Ill.

I should note that the tracks on the north side of the roundhouse are Conrail(formerly Pennsy) and those to the south are CSX(formerly B&O.) Just to the west is the old leads to the Eads Bridge, now used by Mertolink.

I stand corrected! Below is an aerial photo I took of the TRRA in the summer of 1996, from the RH seat of a rented Cessna 172. This image is scanned in, part of our Welcome to RyPN introduction, so it was readily available. I have some of the B&O too, but they're packed.

Last time I was in St. Louis, well actually the eastside, I tried to drive over to the TRRA, or at least where it was. You take the road at the meat byproducts plant (one look at that building and you'll never eat at McDonalds again), a right turn off route 3 if you're headed north. The road was blocked by a massive mound of earth. Any idea why?

Also, further up route 3 are the reamins of the massive approach, trestle, to the Merchants(?) bridge. Long out of service, but one of the most impressive structures I have seen. It was pretty much all there when I last lived in St. Louis in 1996. Last time it had a big (arson?) fire part missing.

Since the Merchants Bridge and it's approaches are still very much in service, this must be the approch to the McKinley Bridge, which is closed to both rail and vehicle traffic.

The approach to the west end of this bridge crosses over I-70 in St. Louis and still has vestiges of the catenary used by the IT trains and cars.
