I'm looking for current photos of former Chicago, Burlington, & Quincy heavyweight baggage car 1309. The car is located in Denver, Colorado.

It is a former baggage-RPO with the RPO section removed and the car converted to full baggage.

The most recent photo that search engines and my usual sources turned up was date 2011.

This car is owned by the Illinois Railway Museum, and if someone is willing and able to provide photos, the photos will be posted to the IRM online blog with proper credit given.

Someone was kind enough to take photos of the car, if anyone is interested in seeing the car, here is a link: https://www.gully.org/nick/rail/2015/02 ... g-baggage/

Does IRM also own the CB&Q/C&S/FW&D XM-32 boxcar coupled to 1309 in the first image? I stumbled across C&S 1681 in Lubbock, TX, last month in similar condition.

Don -

Neat boxcar! "Way of the Zephyrs" slogan on the one side. Would this have had the same slogan on the other side, or perhaps "Everywhere West" instead? Sure hope IRM owns that car and moves it to Union eventually. Or that someone else saves it if IRM doesn't own it.

Les,

"Everywhere West" was on the righthand side of the cars and "Way of the Zephyrs" was on the lefthand side. This was based on the "A" end being designated the front and the "B" end being the rear.

Here is C&S 1681, carrying C&S M-of-W number 99363, that I found in Lubbock, TX, on January 26, 2015. The car is located on an isolated section of rail adjacent to live trackage operated by terminal railroad Plainsman Switching Co. It is evidently used by the food bank which is in the building immediately in front of the now disconnected siding.

I believe IRM has title to the boxcar, but I am not 100% sure. It is a former C&S car.

This CB&Q boxcar shot in 1967 looks quite similar to my untrained eye. The door is obviously different, though. Did railroad car shops occasionally replace original doors with newer ones?

Does IRM also have title for the second, yellow boxcar? From the photos linked to, I can't identify its heritage. Anyone have more info on this one? Thanks in advance!

Ted,

I'm not sure on the yellow boxcar. Maybe someone else can chime in on that one? Looking back through google street view, it's been there as long as the other two have been, so it may be IRM's, I'd just hesitate to say for sure that it is IRM's car.

OT but, I recall from my days in Galesburg, that this car was sitting near the depot:
