I am told Amtrak removed the "Slumbercoach" signs that were attached to the car sides (see photo below).
Did any of these signs survive?
Has someone here seen one in a private collection?

It wasn't uncommon for Amtrak to remove signange on the car sides like that, flip it over, and reinstall it plain side out.

I wonder if those things were done out of fear of trademark infringement.

Baltimore and Ohio Dreamland at the Museum has its signs. They weren't on it when it arrived, so they must have either acquired some plates or had some reproduced.

Of interest, the Budd Company builder's plates for these cars were different than the standard ones Budd used from roughly the mid-'50's until they shut down production. I think they said something like - "Slumbercoach - Designed and Built by the BUDD Company". I know a fan who has one in his collection.

Thanks for that nice bit of internet research, wm303.

Yes, to be determined is whether or not they are reproduction "Slumbercoach" signs, and if so, did the museum find a shop that could make them for a decent price.

I also found (to my amazement) that the Newberry Library has the physical plans for the sign available online, here:
