Ted -

Beautiful U.P. Overland Route neon sign. Hopefully this still exists somewhere. Anyone know? BTW, perhaps you could use this photo to start a new thread on Neon Railroad Signs.

Photo #10: 0-6-0 #4466 and bus #27 in Sacramento in May 1991. #4466 was built by Lima in October 1920, assigned as the Cheyenne shop switcher, moved to Grand Island in April 1960, vacated from the roster in July 1962, held for historical purposes, donated (when??) to the Pacific Coast Chapter R&LHS, moved in May 1973, donated to CSRM in June 1978, returned to service in 1984, o.o.s. since 1999. #27 is/was a 41 seat "parlor coach", Model PDA4101, built by GM in 1949. Is #27 actually part of the CSRM collection, and if so, when was it donated/acquired? Thanks in advance! Photographer, exact date, and film brand are unknown.

The Pacific Castle was 1 of 12 of these Pacific-series sleepers converted to head end power in 1980-1981 and modified for handicap accessibility (this was the third of three batches of HEP conversions of the Pacific-series cars). 2 cars were converted in June 1980, the other 10 were converted between September and January 1981; the Pacific Castle was converted in September as #2438. The third unit in Photo #15 looks more like a GP40X than an SD45. The radiator configuration, and the large, flat silver-painted bit between the axles on the trucks that looks more like the HT-B truck than a C truck are the tip-offs. That would make it a unit from UP's #9000-9005 series.

I have no idea why on earth that stood out to me.

Beautiful U.P. Overland Route neon sign. Hopefully this still exists somewhere. Anyone know? BTW, perhaps you could use this photo to start a new thread on Neon Railroad Signs.

Les

Les,

I don't know for certain, but would suspect, that at one time UP had multiple examples of this sign located at stations across their system, but one survivor is located at their former station in Omaha, which is now the Durham Western Heritage Museum.
