While I know this is a railroad / locomotive page. Steam tracion engines sometimes had headlights. One company that made them was Hamm. Somewhere, someone is making reproductions of these (using metal as the reflector instead of a glass mirror) but I can not locate where.

I also have a LARGE dynamo made by the MOON company of Chicago for sale if anyone is interested. It is the same size as a Pyle - National MO-6. The info tag on it is missing, but the dynamo is complete and turns very easily by hand.

Careful Mark - I had an old MOON in the shop in Colorado and it put out 115 VDC instead of the customary 32. If you have access to a large air compressor, might try spinning it up to see what it is generating with a voltmeter - a steam dynamo on air won't output 100% but it will give you about a 75 - 80% ballpark.

hi dave I have never seen a moon on a loco. I know that they were used in power plants and on ships. It may be 32v. dc but there is a better chance that it is not. that is all. bb

Dear Mark; all the hamm lights I saw burned oil. TEs. did not use a generator. Why not go to a big te. show and ask around. Someone may know where to get one. bb

Dave,

I figured on using household bulbs in my fixtures on the engine, but I do appreciate the heads up! I was told that MOON dynamos were also on steam cranes, derricks, as well as well drillers. If someone makes me a reasonable offer, they can do with it whatever they want.

I have a smaller dynamo that will ideally serve my purpose.

Thanks again to the responses.
