Hi folks,

In 1991 I lived in Dallas Tx for a year and I and my friends would go down to Deep Ellum on Friday nights. On many a trip, I noticed a distinctive brick freight train station there that had been gutted and was being used for parking.

In the early 2000's I read that it had been given protective status and then the owner tore it down one day so he could build something else. The last I heard was that the city was demanding that he rebuild it.

And I can't find anything on the world-wide-inter-webs about it now.

Does anyone know where I can find some information about it and it's former location? I don't think it was rebuilt.

Dunno if this is the right one, but this article mentions a KATY freight depot that was illegally torn down in 2006. The location is in the West End at Ross & Houston. The demolition is said to have caused an outrage but I can't find much evidence of that outrage, at least on the internet.

I've found references to a 1936 Southern Pacific freight depot on Canton Street that received a historical marker and was torn down in the last twenty years. I can't find the exact location but it appears to be in the area of Deep Ellum.

Thank you Charlie, that's the one. TCI was found guilty of fraud and had to pay the city $750 K but they didn't have to rebuild it like the city of Dallas had originally wanted. Once I knew the date and location, I was able to find information online. Funny how that is.
