Evening All

Will be in Savannah the weekend of Sept 20th visiting relatives and was wondering what you folks down that way might suggest. I'm assuming the roundhouse museum tops the list, anything else within an hours driving distance?

Dave,

You could run up to Hardeeville, SC (about 30 minutes north on I-95) and check out Argent Lumber #7, a 3' gauge Porter logging 2-8-0. It's displayed fairly well under a shed near the center of town.

Yes. Southeastern Transportation Museum in suburban Atlanta, and GENERAL and TEXAS nearby. The Glover collection is preserved in a museum which houses GENERAL in Kennesaw. A Glover 2-6-0 is displayed near the Marietta station. Albany has a disassembled 4-6-2 in process, and some other Pidcock Lines power are in small city parks all around southwestern GA. The Georgia Agrirama has a couple little engines. SAM Shortline slow diesel excursions from Cordele.

Savannah itself has a serious collection of former railroad structures very close to the Roundhouse.

Drop me a note offlist when you are on your way.
