So what does this trade do for UP 440? We assume if this trade occurs, UP 440 will go to Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Right now, the only way Union Pacific is in Michigan's Upper Peninsula is because they took over the C&NW. (Of course, how did MCRM get the 440 in the first place?)

Boyd or somebody-

Who is this Clint Jones? I hear much about him, but its like he some sort of rail preservation version of Howard Hughes? What else does he own, and how did he come by the equipment he has? All I know is everyone seems to treat him with kid-gloves. I'm sure there is some obvious event that this treatment triggered?

Most of what I know about Clint is from rumors which I won't spread here. The facts I do know about him are that he owns the C&NW 175 and CRRR 29 up in MI, two BL2s and 3 Fs in Green Bay, WI, a C&NW E unit in Horicon, WI, and numerous C&NW and BN E units at a couple of locations in IL. There are more pieces of rolling stock that may be his around the upper mid-west also. His ownership and plans for these pieces of equipment are kept a secret for reasons unknown to me. Lots of rumors abound regarding his equiment.

Kevin Costner closed out his proposed excursion train to Deadwood a couple of months ago and settled his debts with the local rail authority per newspaper stories at the time. His spokesman in South Dakota, Terry Kranz, is now independently promoting the same train concept. There are some difficulties regarding title to portions of the old grade. Rumor had it that Clint Jones would be supplying some or all of the equipment. IMO, Clint may have misjudged the probablity of the project ever getting off the ground (or on the ground, since the line would have to be relaid to Deadwood).
