According to John Rehor's "The Nickel Plate Story" three 700's were stored at Conneaut after fresh overhauls. They were 74l, 755 now on display at Conneaut, OH, and 759 now at Steamtown.

Our Annual Reports file shows that 765 received its last set of new flues in October of 1955 and Class 5 repairs (running gear)in 1957. The 765 ran until mid June of 1958. The NKP ran its last mainline steam on July 1, 1958.

The 765 was the last recorded 700 to be steamed on the Nickel Plate. The locomotive was inspected and fired up at East Wayne Yards in New Haven, IN in December of 1958 to supply standby steam. Probably for a laying-over passenger extra.

That has already happened with the WW&F 9. You might know she was down in Connnecticut for almost 60 years. A good web site is run by the WW&F Railway Museum.

There was an article about the Connecticut years in the August 1983 TRAINS magazine. Have you seen it?
