What ever became of the tender used as the A-tank for American Freedom Train / Chessie Steam Special 2101.
It was an ex-NYC large Mohawk tender. It was damaged when the roundhouse burned down around the 2101 in 1979. Where did it go after Hagerstown ? Elkhart ??

I'm looking for good pictures of this A-tank, while on the Chessie Steam Special, for the lettering and logos.

Thanks.
SG

Steve, that tender sat in Hagersbush for quite a while after the Steam Specials. It was at the "scrap yard" along with a B&O ob, and some WM coaches (GAA!). Then CSX decided to do what it does best and was going to do away with that yard. I heard that, at the 11th hour, the tender escaped, and went to Indiana. But I'll let the latter up to our Midwestern friends.

What happened to the other equipment? What were the names/numbers of the passenger equip?

Thanks,
Tom

I'm sorry, I don't recall numbers, but I know the WM cars were cut up. But I think that B&O ob may have escaped. Problem is, I don't know where.

2101's auxiliary tender is located at the National New York Central RR Museum in Elkhart Indiana. (Thanks to the Museum of America's Freedom Trains website at www.freedomtrain.org)

A picture of the tender as it exsists today can be seen at the American Freedom Train Yahoo Group in the photos section ... look in the folder entitled AFT #1.
