Hello All

Very excited about Train Festival 2004, crossing my fingers that the OC 33 is ready, wishing time, distance and "hours of service" would have allowed me to volunteer some.

Here's the 33 in a past life on a special excursion in 1976.

The photo, taken in Canal Winchester, Ohio is of a special excursion for the donation of Ray Kroc's private coach (Business Car #11) to the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway. It was dubbed the McDonald's Special. Riding the train that day were such dignitaries as Mr. Ray Kroc, CEO of McDonald's, Congressman Clarence Miller and other state and local politicians and HVSR dignitaries including Jerry Ballard as well as future President and CEO of the Ohio Central Railroad Mr. Jerry Jacobson.

Ironically, Mr. Jacobson would not only come to own the #33 locomotive but he also owns the former McDonald's Business Car #11 - renamed "Sugarcreek".

Both the #33 and the Business Car "Sugarcreek" will be on display at TrainFestival 2004 in Dennison, Ohio.

Interesting...I was there that day, and have the same shot at Canal Winchester. Who took the photo for the Railroad...was it Dave Corbitt...he was with me as I recall. I took a bunch of slides and I think some super 8 silent movies. I think there was a neat scene of taking orders at the C&O in Logan if I remember correctly. I remember the business car being blue on the end, and a marching band, and a big celebration at Nelsonville.
I also shot this engine on video once in 1988 when they ran Santa Trains in December. I didn't know Jerry bought the McDonalds Car also?

I find this most interesting also and by the way, great shot of old #33 passing the Canal Winchester station. [The stained glass windows in the station are cool.](Back in 1976.)
I was shooting video at the beginning of the trip in Columbus at Parsons Ave. Yards.

Thanks for the other information of who was there for the ceremony and etc..
Sounds like a real piece of history, way back in time.
I recall the blue McDonalds car being pulled by old # 33 and making a lot of smoke leaving the yards.
We also shot the Hocking Valley #33 a few times for the annual Christmas Special in Nelsonville. Old coal stoves were burning in each car and Santa would walk the cars giving candy to kids.

I recall that October day in 1976 being rather cool and the huge clouds of smoke from #33 were quite a sight to see.

I was shooting super 8 silent movies, and moved to Sound Super 8 in 1978, then video in 1984. I was shooting a lot of slides before I got into the video business, then it took a rather distinctive back seat to video. Makes me want to dig up these shots of 33. I know the Mcdonald car shots I got were far better than what I got on video of the Santa Train. It was pretty trundly and unimpressive. You could barely hear the engines exhaust, or is it quiet by nature!!!

...can be found on David Dupler's Hocking Valley Scenic Railway photo history webpages (see the below link). They include the railroad's early years (the mid and late 1970's) when they ran push-pull on the 7-mile ex-C&O Monday Creek branch line out of Nelsonville. I remember this branch as being "rural steam railroading at its finest"! I recall the 33 certainly looked HUGE to me, heading up trains on this little branch line. Also, very nice people at the HVSR--got an invite to go back to the shop with the train crew to check out the then-newly-arrived "McDonalds Car". Lots of good information on this tourist line's early (and later) years--the webpage photos bring back many good memories of now "vintage" steam tourist railroading.

Yeah I was at train fest and did not see the Car Sugar creek do u have a photo of the car now that Jerry Joe owns it? Would it be also possible to get a copy of the Hvsr movies you have?
