Looks like a lot of folks are descending on Dennison this weekend. And for good reason. I've been fortuntate to attend two OC events (the 1998 Sept. fest with 1551, 13 and 1293 and the inagural photo outing with 6325 in June '02) and I can tell you in advance that you will have great time. The folks are friendly. The trains are good. And the location is... different...it's not remote-remote like Cass but it's not Minneapolis either. So, for what it's worth, here's my practical advice. I'm sure others have additional so, have at it; have fun and see you there...:
1. First, go early and get a good parking place. Leave town early if you plan to chase. Dennison is a real town with a lot of quiet residential streets and I don't recall a lot of huge parking lots near the depot area. I suspect this will be an issue, especially for folks trying to chase the train. So, be a good neighbor, drive slow and watch for the general public.
2. Bring bug/sun lotion. I think Dennison is blesssed with a group of vistiing Minnesota 'skeeters so bring the OFF, etc. Back in 2002, they were fierce. It's been raining on most of the east coast all week. Need I say more?
3. Bringing the family and they're not crazy 'bout trains? Two recommendations: Roscoe Village, a restored canal town, right out side of Coschocton is great (and has a teriffic inn if anyone is still looking for lodging) to explore and so is Sugar Creek, former OC tourist train HQ, which has lots of Amish craft stores and a few good places to eat.
4. Supplies. Dennison seems to be the place where people live. Urichsville seems to be the place just up the road where they shop. I couldn't get into the Best Western there, but I do recall a grocery store there. (and a source for that combination sunblock/bug lotion I was mentioning).

See y'all Friday. The rypn clatch (look for the SLSF logo) will begin up next to the engine upon the return of the 4 p.m. shop tour train to Dennison both Friday and Saturday. Jim

If I didn't know better, I'd say you were making nasty remarks about the #261 crew...... What do you call those flying thingies in North Carolina....B-52s?

If anyone from out of town has *not* seen the carved History of Steam at Warther Carvings just off 77 in Dover, I highly recommend it. David Warther's history of ships is also well worth a side trip west on...39, isn't it?...toward Sugar Creek.

New Philly is about 10-12 miles north. It has a decent-sized mall and movie theaters. There's a food court in the mall.

Cambridge is 35 miles south. There are a lot of glass shops and such. A short trip west on 70 to Zanesville could take in the Zane Grey National Road Museum, some pottery places and the Bloomer Chocolate factory. New Concord is along the National Road between Cambridge and Zanesville. The John Glenn museum is there and worth a stop if you're in the area.

Pretty sure there are a couple around both Coshocton and Cambridge. I *think* there are some antique places in Sugarcreek, too. Caveat, though--I've never been in any of them, but have only driven by.
