With all the termoil over the 5288 and the TVRM, another steam aquisition of theirs seems to have gone by almost unnoticed, that is the ex-USATC S-160 #611. Stored for many years on at the Texas State Railroad it was traded to the TVRM for some passenger coaches.

While former Canadian owned 4-6-2's are not the rarest breed around, rotory cam valved 2-8-0's (or any wheel arrangement for that matter) are something out of the ordinary.

From the few recent pictures I could find of this engine it appears to be in not very good or complete shape, of course the missing parts could be stored elsewhere. What are the TVRM's plans for this locomotive? I would love to see a locomotive with this unique valve gear in operation.

Roger

A posting on PRR-FAX indicates that the 5288 and tender loaded on two flats left Enola early today.

The ex-KCS F unit was at Enola.

The two cars carrying the 5288 and tender arrived in Roanoke, VA, this morning (5/25) at 0615 hrs.

Gee, Mark, what if the wrong switch gets thrown and she comes south on 126 to Linwood? The fellas in the tower see it, figure it's for us, and...

Just kidding. Hope the move goes smoothly. Jim

Note also that this S160 is the last extant steam locomotive that once hauled revenue freight on the Ma & Pa line. It was sent there to test the poppet valve conversion, being used in regular service in the early 1950s.
