August 13, 2005 - Community Appreciation DayJoin the East Broad Top Railroad, the Kovalchick family, and the citizens of the twin boroughs of Rockhill and Orbisonia as they celebrate the anniversary of the incorporation of their towns. This day is also the anniversary of the East Broad Top Railroad's opening as a tourist railroad in 1960. On this day all train tickets will be reduced to $5.00 per ticket. Trains operate that day at 11:00 am, 12:30 pm, 2:00 pm, 4:00 pm, and 6:30 pm. The once a year "Twilight Train" will depart at 6:30 pm. Reservations are being accepted by phone (814-447-3011) until 9:30 am the morning of August 13. In addition to the train rides, we will be offering guided tours of the shops, roundhouse and yard complex.In the rail yard there will be ongoing projects that are being done by the Friends of the East Broad Top, which will include repairs to the shop's coal bin, rebuilding of a hopper, and reassembly of locomotive #15. Free guided yard tours will also be conducted. We will offer rides on one of several restored antique track cars or speeders. Located in the baggage room of the station building will be a photo display featuring pictures from the historic East Broad Top Railroad.Also to help us celebrate this event, we will have numerous craft and artisans displaying their work. There will also be a display of exotic animals, a horse and wagon. McDonaldland's "Grimace" will be here in the morning riding the train, and greeting the children. Local historical figures Thomas Orbison and his wife Arabella will greet visitors and provide a brief outline of the local history. The "Community Summer Band" will provide an execellent preformance of all types of music starting at 12:00 noon. A local barber shop quartet will round out the afternoon with their harmonic tunes. Tickets may be purchased in advance by sending check or money orders payable to the EBTRR, along with a S.A.S.E. to PO Box 158, Rockhill Furnace, PA. 17249. Please note the time of train you would like to ride.There is something for everyone. The East Broad Top Railroad is located on Route 522 in Orbisonia Pennsylvania.
