From what I understand, we on RYPN have bits and pieces of the story about Steamtown's ex CPR 4-4-4.

#2929 IS going to TVRM for re-gauging to 36" before assignment at East Broad Top. As part of the lease to the EBT, it will be adjusted to burn anthracite and be painted as a Reading T-1. It will attend the B&O Museum's Rail Fair as part of the Canadian Catholic train display. Upon returning from the lease, it will be painted Southern green and see service in Nebraska.

Did I get it all correct?

;-)

Except for missing the part about conversion for service on an Irish monorail.

You forgot the stints on the Tweetsie, Ma & Pa, Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes, and Ffestiniog. And after the one lease is up and it's re-gauged to standard, it's supposed to be leased to Amtrak for Acela back-up duty, and then operate a triple-header with the UP Big Boy and NYC Hudson at the B&O Railfair.

This is after the conversion to a Belpaire firebox, and the addition of a balloon stack and wooden cowcatcher.

I have it on good authority that she will be given a Wooten Firebox and stripped of her streamlining, and converted to a "more stable" 4-4-2 configuration.

Don't forget the red reflective running boards.

Actually it might look good in a Baldwin Style 1 livery with gold and vermillion striping with a maroon base. Hey, if it works for the V&T "Empire" it can work well for a CPR Jubilee!!

Are you sure you don't want to make it into a camelback and return it to Scranton with suitable ceremony, lettered "LACKAWANNA," of course?

Unfortunately I have heard rumors that during the recent boiler inspection they found that the boiler was much worse than expected. Instead of being steel, the boiler shell was a now rarely found alloy of zinc and vitreous anthracite, which while it had some success, fatigues rapidly, is difficult to weld and dissolves in water.

Further, the organization behind the effort has only been able to raise about $14.00 towards the effort, but they are planning an appeal in several leading model magazines.

On the positive side, they have applied for an exemption from all FRA rules and are expecting this to be granted, based on one of the members older brothers being a assistant to a prominent Senator.

Recently the organization has also acquired 5 SP bay window cabooses, 3 Erie Lackawanna MU cars and 3 ex Philadelphia PCC cars to run with the locomotive, along with 2 ex Army 45 tonners and am MRS 1, and a large collection of railroad lanterns.

Anyway, the marketing plan showed it should painted in Daylight if it wants to attract any railfan support.

> The engine will be pulling a whistlestop tour for Irwin Sheets, a manufacturing mogul who is mounting a Presidential Campaign for a new party- as of yet un-named whose main party platform will be of course, the limitation of imports.

As such, the engine will be fitted with a Cummins diesel and the streamlining will be refitted with modern, stealthier steamlining provided by Lockheed Martin.

After that the engine will be converted to burn pork by-products and be featured with Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas. The pair are reprising their "Bob and Doug MacKenzie" characters from SCTV and will be spokesman for the a new Canadian ad campaign by Oscar Meyer.

Hope this puts a bit of rest to all the absolutely ridiculous rumors going on here.

I heard she'll be fitted with a dorsal fin, wings, rocket motor and be converted into a "rail-guided 200,000lb. bunker C oil buster bomb" to be dropped on the ever-elusive Usama. It's just a rumor though, unable to verified by independent sources...
