Travel Town, Los Angeles has a D78.

I did some research a while back on this subject and there may be a couple more around, but I don't recall off the top of my head.

I think that the Red Caboose Motel has a PRR car fitted out as a diner at their place.

But I am not sure if it really is a dining car.

Maybe some of you closer to the Keystone State may have better information.

Probably the result of someone writing a lot of letters to railroads at that time, asking for equipment. And there usually wasn't much thought given to "regionally-appropriate" in those requests. It sure looks like very nice car in those photos, and I would suspect the interior is not only as nice, but it is probably intact.

There are one or two at the Quaker Square hotel in Akron, Ohio. They are round roof cars and are entombed in concrete below the floor level.

Juniata Terminal had a D78F that retained the clearstory roof. We aquired it from Conrail where it was assignied to the Conway Wreck Train. The car was fire damaged and scrapped at our location. I also remember seeing a round roof D78F (M of W yellow) getting cut up at Sam Rea in 1983.

One diner, and a round-end obs. When they were part of Mack Lowry's Railways of America display in the '60's, Mac's wife ran a restaurant in the dinner, which was on a display track with several other cars from the 1930's Broadway Ltd., including the obs car and at least one sleeper, coupled to the ex-CB&Q 0-6-0. Touring the cars came with a ticket to the model train display. It was a great place for a young fan to have lunch on Sunday afternoon...

A railroad is trying to buy the car in Syracuse and the Chapter is pushing hard to scrap it on site, two of the board members are being siticks in the mud on the deal. Some members wanted to fix it up as display space and the two BOD members have gone and got a scrap dealer to cut it, when asked why it has to be cut the BOD members say "It HAS to go, it looks bad and has taken away the photo op!" Now myself, I hate to see the car go. I worked hard to get the Strates Shows car "Syracuse" (Pullman "Palm Lane" sent to Alamosa for a rebuild so it will last the test of time, the same members are mad that the car left for a better life while still owned by CNY NRHS. But I can say the scrap guy is going to have a hard time getting the car out. I own the property across the tracks and I have told them they can not use my land and the railroad is saying no way, so it is going to be hard to get it cut and out. unfortunately the CNY Chapter has taken the "No equipment" stand with the collection so any thing can happen at this time. I will say that myself and others are trying to save any cars that they want to see go away.

Did the Central NY Chapter do a car trade with Iowa Pacific/SLRG? James E. Strates Shows #2 "Syracuse" in turn for D&RGW business car #102?

Kind of, the CNY let IPH take the Palm Lane for a long term lease and in return IPH loaned/donated DRG&W #102 for display at the NYS Fair.
