A postcard of a Spring Valley Electric Railway trolley—misidentified as a Birney type—is for sale on e-Bay.

Anybody know what's happened to that operation and the desposition of the streetcar? A web seach yields nothing.

Sloan and all,

I assume it is still in French Lick, under the asupices of the Indiana Railway Museum http://www.indianarailwaymuseum.org/index.htm

Nothing on their web site mentions the trolley operation, so I wonder if the opeation is still around.

There was some talk about bringing back some sort of heritage line in French Lick, using former SEPTA PCCs in conjunction with the new casino development there. I haven't heard anything about it recently.

"Back in the day" French Lick was a major railroad stopping point, at the end of both Monon and Southern branches. The French Lick Springs hotel had their own side tracks so owners could park their private cars at the resort. It was also a great place to stay for the Kentucky Derby, as the Monon ran special trains into Louisville for the event. Of course, the Derby used to be quite a passenger train event, but that's another story....

When I visited the Indiana Railway Museum last summer the trolley was parked by the station but had not been operated for serveral years.

French Lick is undergoing big changes with the arrival of the casino and the renovation of the resort hotels. I expect the trolley will be revived sooner or later.

Thanks for the commentary.

There is a veiled reference to using train service for congestion mitigation in this 6 months old listing.

Maybe a good use for rehabed PCCs.

FYI: This website has several historical and recent photos of French Lick and vicinity.
