Project DL&W 565 is a cosmetic restore of Delaware Lackawanna & Western 2-6-0, One of only Two steam locomotives in existence. So make sure, you get your copy. To read all about it! I know I can't wait to see it.

That's odd. Mr. Shaner has posted here before and should still have an account. I don't know why he'd need a surrogate to post. Then again, many of us have a good idea who "GSPro" really is.....

Perhaps Mr. Shaner wanted to avoid the full broadside he's received here before. No, his advocacy of the existence of that PRR engine in a quarry may not have ended well (nobody has truly disproven the claim--though there's no mechanism for proof either). I would suspect he means well, but has learned to post to RYPN in a very careful and somewhat removed fashion. Not sure if that reflects poorly on Mr. Shaner, or the rest of us.

I do appreciate the he is continuing to be a positive force with the Lackawanna engine and hasn't quit because of previous criticism.

Mr. Shaner and Mr. Shaner alone is responsible for his own reputation or lack thereof. While I do not want to revisit the quarry locomotive issue, any problems were of his own making. He, on this board, and others made contradictory posts, including having claimed to have seen the cab roof when the water level was low. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof, and he could produce what he claimed.

In short, I think the credit for the DL&W loco project goes to all of the volunteers, not just Mr. Shaner. I hope Mr. Shaner isn't the one making the troll-like posts, but the evidence, while circumstantial, is somewhat solid. I hope it isn't him and that he is directing his energy in a more positive direction, like on the 565.

Easy guys - he's responsible for one of only two steam locomotives in existence and the responsibility must rest heavily on his shoulders.....though I can't recall hearing what happened to the hundreds of others that were left here and there around the world before I read his post and learned of their demise.

Whatever the past indiscretions of the guy, it's entirely possible that this person may have actually learned from some mistakes, and be trying for redemption the slow and meek route.

I have the article in question before me (thanks to an expedited copy, because of some other RyPN hack's photo elsewhere in the issue), and it looks substantial. (It'll take me a good 10-15 minutes to read, that's for sure.)

I remember, years ago back when I was with the Wilmington & Western, some other "young punk" was spreading misinformation about the railroad via Railpace Newsmagazine. I managed to chide him via mail, and he soon learned the error of his youthful over-exuberance. That "ding-a-ling" doesn't grace us with his presence much on here anymore, but most of us know the individual very well, and probably respect him now a lot more than I did that "young pup" back then..........
