For those that haven't seen it, U.S. Sugar (https://sugarexpress.com/) has announced much of their 2023-2024 winter steam excursion schedule. The events include a number of Santa trains, all-day and half-day trips, plus a 3-day event that covers their South Central Florida Express Railroad.

All trips will use their ex-Florida East Coast, later U.S. Sugar, #148 4-6-2. These trips operate during the company's busy sugar cane harvest season, so they are a great way to see the operations of the company. Some trips also stop at the ACL station in Lake Placid, FL, where tours of the depot are available.

For anybody even thinking about a visit to the Sugar Express, make sure to buy a copy of Mr Barton Jennings' excellent guidebook "The Railroads of U.S. Sugar: History Through the Miles". I've never seen more information per page/penny spent in any other comparable volume about any other railroad. BRAVO !!!

Thanks for the comment Sammy. I'm blushing!

For those coming to the January 20-22 mileage fest, I'll be doing a presentation about the railroad's history at the Clewiston Museum the evening of Friday, January 19th. No charge to attend. Last year the museum had to turn folks away as the room, hallway, and even the projection room, were full.

Maybe next year you should run a second section.

In 2023, there was a 3-day event. Two days were behind diesel and 1 day was behind steam. In 2024, all 3 days will have steam, although some of the 20-mile+ backing moves will feature diesel for safety.
In 2025, there will probably be some other type of event.
