Suede Gray is a classic EMD interior color. You'll see it noted in quite a few spots on Eric's list. This is what it looks like in this great shot of Reading GP-7 #621's cab interior. The other interior colors commonly used in a wide variety of applications besides railroad equipment are light green and beige...

Suede Gray is DuPont 93-503, Plate #147, in the 1954 catalog...

Newer DuPont chips from the bottom up of the three lightest, Ford Birch Gray, GMC Polar Gray, and Ford Dovetone Gray...

I got everything properly lined up so I had to go back and edit the last post on the last page. LOL The MS 11465 chip was the oddball messing me up there temporarily so now I'm about as good as I can get with my grays. I do have my two choices picked out but I'll send the ol' Mark I Eyeball out to the calibration shop overnight just to be sure... LOL

Here's the Annville shifter crew back in the seventies doing their thing. Both of the Reading covered hopper grays I'm familiar with can be seen here...

The darker gray color is either Ford Birch Gray or the fleet Suede Gray. Choosing between those two, I'd have go with the slightly darker Suede Gray...

Same deal with the lighter grays either being Ford Dovetone Gray or GMC Polar Gray. This one's pretty much a toss-up so here's the slightly darker and off-gray Polar Gray...

I did a montage with the Ford Dovetone Gray as well to help with my decision which didn't really. There isn't all that much to work with with the Reading's ACF Center Flows and either color so we're definitely in a gray area with these two... LOL

Here is the scan of both Dovetone Gray and Polar Gray from the 1954 catalog. Sorry man, absolutely no help at all... LOL

The photo's not much better. I'm leaning toward the GMC Polar Gray for now but since this seems to be a standard ACF covered hopper color and not the Reading's, I wouldn't say it's not the Ford Dovetone Gray, either... LOL

So then I thought I need to fashion up a nice, flat, low-gloss method of illustrating the difference between Ford Dovetail Gray and GMC Polar Gray, an alternative alternative example if you will. Garment dyes tend to follow the commercial fleet color palette also. Heather gray just happens to be one my long-time favorite clothing colors and it looks really good now that I'm heather gray as well. LOL

The Fruit of the Loom sweatshirt on the left would represent the straight-gray Dovetone Gray while the Duofold pullover on the right, the off-gray Polar Gray. The flannel sheet is about the same shade as Ford Birch Gray and Suede Gray although it appears to resemble a more modern synthetically-pigmented, slightly-bluish fleet gray. It'll look more like Suede if the dogs get up on the bed and roll around for awhile, though.

I remember the Reading's Center Flows being a bit more of an off-gray so I'll say Polar Gray for those...

Covered hoppers are most likely the standard CarClad gray. Sherwin Williams F44A2

Now I'll have to see if I can find it, Eric... LOL

I would assume you're referring to the ACF Center Flow cars with that code. The Reading homebuilts were darker. The model makers tend to get this one right, or they used to...

The Atlas model outside the box and these newer Intermountain cars look like they're pretty much spot on...

SW4022, Balsam, appears to be the equivalent of GMC Polar Gray. Junction Yellow, SW4034, looks a lot like Kraft Yellow so I might have to check that one out as well...
