Post subject: Santa Fe Budd Coach- More Questions
PostPosted: Mon Jun 18, 2001 11:08 pm

I am seriously considering purchasing the coach mentioned in an earlier post. I think it will fit in well with my needs. However, I would like to investigate moving it by rail to my property but I know absolutely nothing about the disc brakes on the car and I have concerns that the rotors may not be acceptable for use. I would like to learn a little about how the disc brake system works and also what the tolerances are for the rotors. It moved there on its own wheels but that is no guarantee it can be moved back out on said same wheels. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks.

Rick,

I was searching the net the other day (again!) and I found an ad on D.F. Barnhardt's website. The ad was for an ATSF 1948 Pullman Stainless coach (Regall Creek) . The ad is included below along with the link to D.F. Barnhardt's website! Take a look around the website! There is some really nice units for sale!

Post subject: Pullman-built is not the same as Budd-built

REGAL CREEK is a sleeping car. As the lsting says it was built in one configuration and then remodeled inside.

This car was built by Pullman and it should not be considered to be of the same construction as a Budd car. Pullman generally used carbon steel for the structural framing and clad the car with stainless steel siding. Budd used stainless steel for the framing and thus the Budd cars survived much better than the others.
