Hi everyone-
I know I have been dropping a lot of lines on here as of late, but in the interest of making sure we do our car's restoration right, I'm hoping that those of you out there in the know can help us in documenting the car's history.

In researching what happened to our car (former GTW #7365, nee C&GT #1842) after GTW sold it to the Grand Rapids Chair Company, we found we had a rather large gap in its ownership history between about 1962 and when it arrived at Quaker Square in Akron sometime in the mid to late 1970's. Some of the guys at Cuyahoga Valley indicated that the car was part of a collection of PRR equipment owned by a Mack Lowry. Thanks to a couple of you guys out there, we were able to find a link to a photo taken by a Bob Rathke (sp?) in about 1963 at the site.

I have put a link to this site below. The wooden car behind the PRR Business car & European-looking 0-4-0T in the right side of the photo looks to be our car. Did anyone visit this museum back in the day, and did anyone take pictures of the car while it was there that might have been a bit closer? Does anyone know who this Mack Lowry was, and how the Railroads of America RR Museum got started? According to the link, the museum was located in Cuyahoga Falls OH, just north of Akron.

I was only there briefly in the 1970s, and cannot comment on your railcar. The attraction, however was a huge O-scale model railroad housed within a replica depot, surrounded by a 1/4-size minature streamliner train ride and several standard gauge passenger cars. There was also a 2-foot gauge German 0-4-0T and a former CB&Q 0-6-0, last used by Midland Electric. I think the stuff moved to Quaker Square in the 1980s sometime.

Yep, that stuff did move to Quaker Square in Akron. All that is left now is the CB&Q 0-6-0 and the Henschel 0-4-0T engine. Slowly over the years the rest of the equipment was scrapped or oved off site. The 2 rail O scale equipment disappeared and maybe one or two pieces of the 1/4 scale equipment remains.

This is what happens when you let a for profit entertainment and retail developer have historic railroad equipment. It deteriorates, then disappears.

Thanks Bob & Rick-

Well in at least two cases, the equipment survived. One of the pennsy cars was picked-up by Cuyahoga, and we got the GTW car. What goes around comes around I guess. This type of thing does, however, support the earlier ideas and postings on having a rolling stock database.......
I'm willing to contribute on the Michigan section!
Any idea how Mack Lowry got ahold the equipment in the first place?

Thank you for mentioning the Cuyahoga Valley in your posts about GTW 7365, we are proud to have had a part in saving this car and the PRR 7506 from Quaker Square.PRR 1157, 1158 and the former PRR SKYLINE VIEW are still at Quaker Square entombed in the building, with the 1157 & 1158 cut apart to integrate them into a restaraunt.
Since we acquired the 7506 our plans have changed and we would like to find a good home for her.If anyone is interested in a 1914 built Pullman office car please contact me at the above e-mail address.
