I would like to purchase a set of blueprints for an MLW built steam engine that CN used, class H-6, similar to the Ohio Central #1551. So far, I've contacted the Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa, does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Try the CRHA's Delson, Quebec museum "Exporail". CRHA has extensive MLW collections and may well have some of the H-6 drawings and photos.

I'm sure Exporail will have them. They have the entire archives of MLW. However, depending on how much you want, it can get quite pricey. Not only will you have to pay for reproduction costs, but also research costs.

If it is cost prohibitive, try the Alberta Railway Museum. They have sister engine #1392 in operating condition. 1551's original number was 1354.

One guy who had a number of CNR drawings for sale, was Bill Dykeman in PEI. Although he has since died, perhaps someone in his family is keeping the business going. His business was called the York Central Railway. He has a catalog that lists the various part drawings available. While he doesn't have any erecting cards for any of the H-6s, he has a few other drawings applicable to the H-6 class.

Is this for a live steam project? Might I suggest a nice GTR engine. Bill has lots of drawings from engines that orignated from the GTR such as pacifics, Moguls, Mikado's 6 and 8 wheeled switchers, inluding erecting cards and detail drawings.

I personally have posted CNR Mechanical Department diagrams for most classes of CN Steam power on my website, and I've got diagrams for all of the H-6s.

This is for a very specific application, but not a scale locomotive. Another locomotive class would not be feasible. Would the H6c drawings be applicable to an H6? Maybe Ohio Central would have the drawings and could be able to have them copied?

Not to be mysterious, but Trainspotter will let you know more when he is able to.

For which subclass are you looking for drawings? That might help in narrowing down the search. I understand not wishing to list a engine number prematurely. Class H-6 included a varied group of ten wheelers, but if you can let us know the subclass (-a, -b, etc) it'll help.

Another source worth checking is the Canada Science & Technology Museum in Ottawa. Their library and archive resources are excellent. Here's a link to the library services:

I would be looking for the H-6-d class. The H-6-c had different cylinders, definately not the same.
