I was at VMT today in Roanoke and noticed that N&W Auxillary Water Car 250001 had COT&S markings for today, 3/5/11. Underneath was stencilled FWRHS. Also, RPCX reporting marks have been added to the car. These represent a private owner utilizting the Railroad Passenger Car Alliance's Railroad Passenger Car Numbering Bureau.

Has VMT and Fort Wayne RR Historical Society made a deal on the car? Haven't heard anything and can't find any news items on the web. Just curious.

Something from Roanoke will be coming to Fort Wayne.

Which one? There's currently 3 large engines to choose from! ;)

I would hope it would be that N&W M class 4-8-0,would like to see what FWHS could do with that. But bet that Wabash E8 diesel might be the loco.

Huh? What's the basis to assume that the something is something beyond the water car?

If there was something beyond a loaned water car, that Wabash E-8 would be right at home with FWRHS and would be a great fit operationally for the 765, though a Wabash unit with an NKP Berk might look a bit odd. BTW, NKP had PA's, but what about E-units? Lots of Geeps running around as I recall, but don't recall any E-units.

Best,
Mike

Nickel Plate did not have any E units.

Here are a few photos of the 250001 that were posted on the NW Mailing List today. The photos were credited to Larry Evans.

I’m pretty sure that if FWRHS wanted to restore another steam engine, their Wabash 0-6-0(?) #1 would be a good candidate.

Let's just consider my comment more wishful thinking than anything else. :)

Best candidate of the 4-8-0's is 1118 at the NRHS, followed by 1134 at portsmouth, 1151 at VMT could be, VMT has meant it to be a display engine only, it represents one of the few Roanoke built engines in existance, but it needs the most work. It is superheaterless, and it may had been in the middle of work when retired.

765 is doing some tripping, so a water car is handy.
If the FRRHS wants to get its feet wet on another steamer, they should ask the NRHS for 1118. Or help on some restoration.
But 765 is enough load to handle and the 0-6-0.
buuut will have to see what they wanna do...

How do we get from some seeing some new stencils on an A-Tank in Roanoke to moving another steam locomotive to Fort Wayne for restoration?

The totally illogical leaps of logic here are absolutely astounding.

Thanks for saying it, Rich - someone needed to do so. Hope all is well with you.
