Just good solid railroading from highly qualified professionals with adequate resources at their disposal.

Nothing supernatural about it.

If you know the recent history of the Cumbersome and Troublesome, you understand about miracles.

Good railroaders, all. Resources? I assume you have sent your check.

Intimately familiar and I was supporting railroad preservation before you were an impure thought.

Your ascription of supernatural or religious influence instead of hard work on the part of such dedicated and influential professionals as Steven Butler and Dan Ranger, or the behind the scenes political strategists who came up with the funds could be considered insulting - and I believe you do respect them and their work. Give the people who did it the credit they are due - not some otherworldly set of circumstances.

What was done at CATS can be done anywhere the same set of circumstances and people can be brought together. It isn't magical. It is just plain good hard work. Save the term "miracle" for circumstances which would lead to sainthood or occurances which take place without human intervention. It is overused.

Since the Lord has created EVERYTHING, including these dedicated and influential professionals you speak of, I don't think the use of the word miracle is out of line. Perhaps we should be thanking God for the people who are putting the time and effort in? Not stomping your opinion, Dave, merely offering my own. Seth

Wait, isn't theology sort of off-topic?

But if not, as a Manichaean I believe that Rudolf Diesel was a creature of Satan....

Compromise:

When Steven lays hands on an old tired cracked and thin firebox and it heals itself I will consider it miraculous. If he has to cut, weld, and run in a couple hundred new stays it will stay good railroading.

Let's not overdo it guys. In the USA new fireboxes are considered heroic efforts when in the UK and Australia boilers are replaced in entirety frequently. All done by people using tools in the traditional way. When the crew clocks out one night and comes back to find a new boiler has appeared the next morning - that's miraculous.

I'm not interested in a semantical p**ing contest with you on the use of the word 'miracle'.
I'll use it as I please.
I doubt that you were "supporting railroad preservation before I was an impure thought. " I'm 67 years old.

For the record, I count Dan Ranger, Steven Butler, Kim Flowers, and the entire staff and crews of the CTSRR as my personal friends, and I hold them in the highest esteem. They know that and don't need to hear me say it on a bulletin board. I'm a resident of Chama, I talk with these people every day, and ALL of us have had to learn to believe in miracles, because in spite of the tremendous efforts on the part of many people, we keep having to produce another one.

If you follow the link below you see what I mean.

Thank you. Frankly, I'm rather astonished at the reaction on this board. I go out and take a bunch of pictures of what is probably the last train to Antonito for some weeks, and share them with you. The response it gets is a long thread on my use of a single word. I don't see why the guy's opinion should NOT be stomped on!

Next time I'll just podt them on The Goat and whoever is interested can come over there and hunt for them.
