 Post subject: new OP&E?
PostPosted: Thu Jun 20, 2002 2:44 pm

Ran across this somewhere. It appears there is a "new" Oregon Pacific & Eastern operation of some sort. I thought the line was 95% torn up after closure. What's going on?

Incidently, the OP&E was where the 1926 silent movie "The General" was filmed, starring Buster Keaton.

Post subject: And What's with them using MCRwy 25?

The Mc Cloud 25 leaving home rails to operate elsewhere? The 25 is one of the few shortline steam locos to still be on the same property since new. If she leaves the McCloud, it will be a real loss of history for the area. Just when we were happy to see that the 18 had finally returned to her "home rails."
So who is behind thia "rebirth?"

The OP&E has been torn up for around a decade. A Walmart is now at the old passenger loading area. Sure was a big effort of a press release with no mention of WHERE the resurected OP&E is going to run.

I live in Cottage Grove and there is certainly nothing happening with the OP&E. There was a rumor someone with money was going to start it again but like Smokebox said Wal-Mart is where the wye and depot used to be, the bridges will need work before too long, and the yard has been completly tore up, and there is mining equipment in front of the roundhouse that is owned by a private individual.

Although I'd love to see it running again, there's little chance.
