Steam mixed train service will resume on May 8th for the summer and fall. Departure time has been moved to 8:00 am Wednesday and Friday, if there are loads to bring up. $15.00, cash only, exact change is appreciated.

Thanks for the heads up - hope all went well on May 8th for the first for 2013.
Forecast stated chance of some heavy fog, possible rain.

It would be a great idea if this info could be posted somewhere on routine -
maybe the FB page? or on site? Could be simply when there will not be
a train vs each time there will be.

When possible, Strasburg Rail Road posts Mixed Train cancellations on the "Station Updates" header on our website as well as on our Facebook and Twitter platforms.

I'm not sure if this has been posted but what is a Mastadon rated on the Strasburg?

By rights, nothing. Per the locomotive Cyclopedia, a "Mastodon" is a 4-10-0. Our 4-8-0 is officially known as a "12-Wheel".

Per the traditional formula, our "12-Wheel" #475 is good for 1003 trailing tons on our line. In deference to her age, we tend to reduce that by about ¼ in our usual operations, or about six of today’s loaded freight cars.

BTW, depending on NS, Wednesday’s mixed could be up to seven loads.

Double-headed steam, or diesel assist?

It looks like #89 will be the road engine with the diesel pushing.

Some video from today's freight run. The sounds were awesome! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KdSGBzXvz8

Would it be safe to assume if there are no cancellations listed, a mixed steam powered freight will be running?

Found "Station Updates" up on the very top of the page in red (might never have found it without a heads up, btw). For May 22nd, 2013, I did not see any notices, nor on FB.

Reminds me of an event I thought would be "fun" for work - a trip to an amusement park.

That was followed by - "We need a few weeks notice /I'm not driving there /There better be a restroom on the bus /Is breakfast and lunch provided". Still... it would be really nice if someone were put in full time charge of posting a go /no-go status update at at least one specific location. Who ya gonna call at 1:29 AM, lol.

Hope I'm not bugging the Strasburg folk too much, but how's tomorrow freight run shaping up? I'm planning on stopping through on my way to the..... Enola area. ;)
