Do you have the number of the ex-AT&SF coach?? The pictures you had posted originally are no longer visible, and the links went dead. I remember seeing the number back when this thread was posted in April, but I made the mistake of not writing it down.

Found a few other photos of the car in question on Flickr, but unfortunately none of them show the number plate.

Also, I'd be curious to know the identity of the ex-Amtrak baggage car next to the coach in some of the photos I found.

This doesn't happen to be the coach that took a ride down the hill with AT&SF diner #1483?

Does anyone happen to have at least a partial list of the cars leased to SBRHS (Santa Fe or otherwise)??

Any info would be helpful and appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The baggage car appears to be ex-New York Central. The end of the car not visible in the photo should have a two-piece clamshell-style door that opens almost the whole width of the car for large loads (horses?).

Baggage cars with end doors, after the early infatuation between the rich and their automobiles was over, were almost always for theatrical scenery. These were often provided on horse cars to make the cars more versatile; as neither the theater or racing business kept them employed full time.

That's a 1946 NYC 9100-series bagg. Yes, full end doors on one end. A bunch of these became the 1975-76 AFT display cars. Many wound up as storage cars/buildings for AMTK, still in NYC dark gray.

The two A Units (#100 and #102) were formerly used on the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train operation here in Washington. The "of Washington" lettering has been painted out on both units, leaving only "Spirit".

The #100 was built in June 1952 as B&LE F7A #723A (Order No. 3105, Serial No. 16595, Frame No. 3105-A9). It was later transferred to US Steel as USSX #723A (the "A" was later dropped) and assigned to the iron ore line in Wyoming. It was later acquired by Texas Southern in approx. 1987 as #100 and painted in the Warbonnet-inspired paint scheme, and was later repainted for the Transcisco Texan operation--when Washington Central later purchased the unit for use with their Spirit of Washington Dinner Train in Renton, WA, the Transcisco paint job was mirrored in WCRC black and red. The #100 was later sold to the Carrizo Gorge Railway sometime after WCRC began using ex-B&O/MARC F9PHA units #82 and #84. I recall from the recesses of my memory seeing two WCRC cab units on flatcars on BN's Scenic Sub in Downtown Seattle sometime back in the 1990's--I don't remember the date, nor did I take any photos or write down the numbers. Oh well.

The #102 was built in June 1952 as B&LE F7A #724A (o/n 3105, s/n 16596, f/n 3105-A10). It was later transferred to US Steel as USSX #724A (the "A" was later dropped) and assigned to the iron ore line in Wyoming. It follows the same ownership and paint scheme history as the #100 above.

The B Unit (#101) is still painted for the Transcisco Texan operation and carries MCHX reporting marks, which apparently currently belong to Trinity Rail Management. Does anyone know if this unit came directly from Texas, or was it also acquired by WCRC and sold to CZRY at the same time as the #100 and #102?

Also located in Jacumba is ex-C&NW GP7 #4324 (built as #1716, 9-1955, o/n 5404, s/n 20682, f/n 5404-1).

I think, but am not totally sure, that the ex-Amtrak coach that went down the hill with the diner was Amtrak #5601. PSRM sold/loaned/gave it to CZRY. Built by Budd, 1939, ex SCL 5601, ex ACL 201.

You're very welcome.

I have not heard of any plans concerning either the engines or lightweight cars. I know that the last time a maintenance-of-way train ventured into Carrizo Gorge, they used one of the two ex-WCRC cab units (I think it was the #102--but don't quote me on that).

I found a video on YouTube awhile back taken by someone onboard the locomotive during said MofW trip--I'll see if I can find it again.

Rainier Rails, I found a youtube video that is a cab ride in one of the F7's through the
Gorge, many tunnels, and an incredible wood trestle. At the end of the tape it shows the two wood cars, F7B and the stainless coaches.
