We are going to contact the borough manager about this equipment. The locomotive at least would be a great addition to the Carrie Furnaces National Historic Landmark and its small size and light weight would make it inexpensive to move. We even have rails in our blowing engine house so that it can live inside.

They are standard gauge. The b/n and history for the Porter appears to be correct, and it has indeed been much modified during its life.

The caboose began life as Pittsburgh, McKeesport & Youghiogheny RR, a P&LE affiliate. Never any connection to Bessemer & Lake Erie. From the "P-Mickey" it went to parent P&LE, then to Pittsburgh & Ohio Valley RR, where it carried the number 8. Both pieces were displayed for a period at Station Square, which is the former P&LE passenger station in Pittsburgh. When that property changed hands, all the railroad and trolley rolling stock was disposed of. That's when these two pieces ended up at Sewickley, with help from former Bessemer & Lake Erie president Fred Okie. (That's the B&LE connection, if any.)

I wonder if the Gramlings need another tank engine? I know they have lots of experience moving them around and fixing them up.

Here is a photo album showing the move of the locomotive and caboose from Station Square to its present location at Riverfront Park.

Sounds like the perfect home for these two. Very relevant to your collection, local and historic. Here's hoping you can make a go of this one.

(I'd like to see you get B&LE 643 as well, but this project seems far more achievable.)

Anyone have any idea if that little 4 wheel tender was a Carnegie Steel or U.S. Steel addition when the engine was in service, or if it might have just been added when the engine went on display?

The 4 wheel tender appears to be a homebrew by USS or one of the predecessors. It has been with the loco in preservation and was probably there a long time before.

The Gramlings' website says that the trucker they work with on their many moves is Dave Tunison of Hadley, Michigan. Since so much turns on how costly the move would be, he'd be a good person to get in touch with.

Age of Steam won the bidding for this equipment with a donation of $17,501.11 being made to the borough.

Congrats to JJJ! I know this will make quite a cute operation, the 0-4-0 and the bobber.

That was one quick rescue! Whether the set stays at AOSR or ends up operating elsewhere, it's definitely in good hands now.
