Well, since we are dreaming, a DL109 for sure. Or an ABA "Black Maria" set. Would really be nice to see a replica of New York Central 1550, "the first successful road diesel locomotive".

As others have said, there are very worthy projects out there that need attention before we go crazy and start building new locomotives. Fun to dream though.

This is all quite silly. I like the idea of building a TM from a slug since that is actually kind of realistic. A Centipede would be cool but the running gear castings would be a bear. As we cannot construct new versions of every oddball diesel and had to choose I would say a DL109. That has the advantage of making non fans go "wow" while a Baby Face or Centipede people would be of interest just to us. (That is also the advantage of the T1 or J3a.)

As with PA restoration, the trick is finding trucks. But even if you have to build them, having the pieces cast is probably not a deal-breaker. Round up engines and other parts. The rest is just a lot of steel fabrication.

Of course my "if I won the lottery" special would be overhead electric powered. No Pacific Electric steel interurban cars survive. The only steel-body PE interurbans at OERM are "hand me downs" from other Southern Pacific properties. I believe there's a set of Key System "bridge unit" trucks available--except for having roller bearings, they're similar to those used by PE 1100-class cars......

Sikorsky / Pullman United Aircraft Turbo Train

To this day, still holds the North American high speed rail speed record for a production built train set which was set way back on December 20th, 1967 at 170.8 mph in Princeton, NJ on the Corridor.

And not one was saved.

Would be nice to get a chance to see (and hear) a jet power train!

Maybe the tail end of an Aero Train, since two sets exist but both are strangely missing the end car.

Yes, I know there are survivors, but why not "chop & channel" a couple of E8/9's to build an A-B E6 combo. It would require some relocation of mechanical components, but you could update to more modern mechanical standards in the process. Paint them solid white, then use "wraps" so they could play different rolls.

A DL-109 would be an excellent choice, but I'm curious, what would be the "wow" factor it would have with the public that other units lack, particularly the Centipede?

A second comment--would you need at least two such units to handle a train of appropriate size? Those A-1-A trucked units from any builder were never known as the pullingest locomotives around.
