Has anyone considered posting a general directory of the tourist railway and museum organizations in the US on these boards? This idea came to mind after viewing a fellow member's comment about not being familiar with a particular tourist railway's abbreviation, hence left out of the conversation. The directory could feature the "reporting marks" of a company, it's website, perhaps a one sentence blurb describing its function and location. Just the basic bits of info for any board members to access.

I'm not sure if this has already been considered, or is too daunting to draw up, if one already exists elsewhere, etc. Take of it what you will, though I do believe RYPN and its members could stand to benefit from an industry database.

Well, you can look up member organizations on ATRRM.org, but if a small group doesn't happen to be a member then its not listed.

We have been told repeatedly that RYPN is a website running on autopilot, and the passwords to edit the articles section and others have been lost, so I would question how a new posting of information is going to be supported, edited, and kept up to date while those already here cannot be edited or maintained.

railroad(dot)net already has such a page, with some out of date listings illustrating the difficulty in keeping such information current:

NRHS carries this a step farther and has a list of tourist roads and museums which offer NRHS members a discount.

For details, see nrhs.com

Note that you may have to show a membership card to take advantage of these discounts.

I personally use the fantastic and frequently-updated www.railserve.com website, run by a childhood friend of mine. Chances are, if there's a link to an online website for the railroad, then it's more than likely listed on this site.

There's a specific section for Tourist Railroad listings in North America, which can be found here: http://www.railserve.com/Tourist/North_America/
