Knowing that companies often have poor history about preserving their own records...

I'm looking for information (plans mostly) on lower quadrant semaphores made by US&S about a hundred years ago for the Lackawanna. Were they saved? If so, who has them?

Best regards,

Joshua

Zachary Gillihan has a large collection of US&S negatives, and he may be able to help. He has been scanning and archiving the negatives over the last ten years, and has been sharing some of these negatives on his webpage and photo sharing media.

Check out his in-development webpage at www.rrsignalpix.com - his contact information is there, which is probably the key piece of information that you'd need.

Also, a bunch of information regarding this collection would be under this link: http://rrsignalpix.com/documents.php - you'll need to scroll down a bit. You'll also find lots of scanned catalogs and manuals, maybe what you need will be there.

About 500 US&S negatives were acquired from the Swissvale plant by RR Museum of PA in 1979 and are interfiled in the general negative collection in MG-199.

The answer to your question is YES they were saved, BUT they were recently destroyed by the company who owns the former US&S. At least that is what I was told. Remember, this is corporate America who has ZERO interest in what happened 100 years ago. That said, they did at least publish two books about their history.
Concerning the STYLE "B" lower quadrant semaphore they sold over 70,000 of them !
