Does anyone know if there is an archive that has Williamsport and North Branch Railroad material?

The only book I know of is Muncy Valley life Line, The life and Times of the Williamsport and North Branch and Eagles Mere Railroads, by Thomas T. Taber III, 1972. Last I heard (last summer), Mr. Taber was still active at the Thomas T. Taber Library in Williamsport, PA. That's probably the best place to go. The State Archives in Harrisburg, or the RR Museum of PA in Strasburg might also be helpful.

Troy, the W&NB papers were never saved. What little that remains is bits and pieces of things in MG-199 in the RRMPa archives.

A million years ago, I was in charge of the plan vault in the Reading Company’s Chief Engineers office. When we were clearing out anything not needed by Conrail, I liberated a small envelope of B&W contact prints (likely from 120 film) showing tracks and bridges along the W&NB. There was no accompanying explanation of why the RDG had these photos, but presumably there had been some interest in acquiring part of the W&NB line. I’ve not seen those photos in years, but if I can locate them, I’ll get them scanned and send them to anybody with an interest.

I'm sure the three institutions mentioned in my previous post would be very interested. The W&NB connected with the RDG and owned some ex-RDG locomotives. I don't know the full extent of RDG involvement.

Many years ago, I saw the depot at Nordmont. It was in pretty good shape, but that was well over 20 years ago.

I just saw a copy of that book in the antique store two doors away from our office and 'almost' bought a copy myself. If you are looking for one PM or email me and I'll see if it is still there.

Update: confirmed, still there, Taber '72, good condition, $15.

Thanks for your help. I'll check out some of these sources. I'm specifically looking for information on the old Nordmont caboose, which now resides at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.

If we're talking about the same car, I thought that caboose had roots on the L.V. and/or Williamsport & North Branch. Am I mistaken?

That's correct Tom. I've been trying to find its Lehigh Valley roots, but with little success.

Here's an eBay listing for what is claimed to be a coupler off this car. The auction ended a long time ago.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/201477872590

Seller claims the car was LV 671, though they give no context as to why.

Thanks Keith. Unfortunately, the official railway equipment register doesn't list a Lehigh Valley caboose with that number. It could possibly be 96671. Did he say whether he discovered any markings on the coupler? If so, that could possibly help. Thanks again.

Sorry Troy, that's all the info I have to provide. Wish I could be of more help.

No problem Keith. Thanks for the info. I contacted the seller of the coupler, and hopefully, he'll provide some clarity.

I was going through some old photos in my collection last night and came across these two. Is this the caboose you are referring to? I don't have any other info on it.

That's a good price and it's a very good book.

It was written when some W&NB employees were still alive.

Lots of pictures and good info.
