Here's today's effort. I've been trying to get more of that orange-red color, as it appears in person, to pop out in my photos. This is under bright overcast and alongside a slightly upsaturated pic of #604 taken in somewhat similar partly cloudy conditions...

Looks a lot like the Mandarin Orange used by China Rail on some of their passenger equipment....

That one's actually pretty close to Canadian National's orange-red, Sammy, just like NdeM's... LOL ;)

DuPont 6282, the CN's orange-red, is on that aviation chart I posted on the last page next to the Burnt Orange chip. 7455 is also an early-seventies Dodge Truck color, by the way. I've also seen 6282 listed as the Pennsy's Toluidine Red which strikes me as a bit odd since it's more of a Seven-Up orange-red instead of a Coca-Cola red-red...

The carnelian reds are darker than Scarlet and lighter than Swift Red so this cobbled-together representation would be just about right...

Now here's the most orange Reading caboose picture I've found so far but this one looks like it's due for another trip through the paint shop sometime in the near future. Scarlet, which does lean slightly towards the orange side of red, will fade down like that...

Wow, that was just about right. Not exactly, but just about...

With the Cardinal Red Chevy truck and Lehigh Valley #505 from the same photo. Being somewhat off in the distance, the color on the truck would be a bit muted...

Yeah, these two "burnt reds", which could be an apt descriptive label for them, can turn dark and purple all on their own. They don't need to be painted over black to do that...

I'm just sort of goofing around this morning. LOL Here's a better look at Burnt Orange, however, on a 1970 Dodge truck...

With this one, I tried to match the Tuscan Red on #182 to a more modern photographic standard of the color based upon those taken of PRR #5901 at Strasburg. That looks almost exactly like WE5884 should look like on the pup in the background and I'll attempt to verify this myself after I finally make it back down there...

On the right, that's WE5880 on top and WE5884 on the bottom as downloaded from my camera. I'm taking the rest of the day off... :)

Well, that certainly was fun but I can't say it really proved anything. LOL This little as-photographed color variation hodgepodge doesn't really prove anything either, except perhaps ExxonMobil is still using Socony Red in association with its Mobil-branded industrial lubrication products...

You'd think they'd use the legacy Gargoyle moniker on the basic 600W steam oil as well since that was a very well-known product at one time. This is a very good representation of the average "burnt red" color as it appears between the bright orange-red and darker purple-maroon. Yeah, I know these buckets are plastic but so is Imron... LOL
