I was curious as to the status of the group in Pueblo working on their ATSF 2900 Class.

Any news?

Thanks in advance.

I was under the impression a couple of years ago that this engine's restoration was being underwritten by the BNSF to be used as a public relations tool? I had heard that some of the appliances were being refurbished professionally. Too good to be true most likely?

Yes, way too good to be true. The group has gotten some grants from the Colorado Historical Society over the years and has used that money to have some appliances (for example, the water pump, air pumps, lubricators, dynamo) rebuilt professionally, but BNSF has had no involvement and does not support (or detract from) the project.

Various claims have been made that BNSF is behind this project, but when the claims are tracked down, there usually isn't much, if anything, behind those claims to substantiate them.

IOW, if BNSF makes an announcement about it, you can believe it. Until then, one should be a bit skeptical about claims.
