Well, this worked out to be a "sweet deal," at least in some ways:

Quote:
Three former Great Northern Railway passenger cars that were left abandoned in Mississippi have found a new home and a bright future in Florida on U.S. Sugar’s growing tourist operation. This week, Sugar Express announced it had purchased three passenger cars from the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey for use on a future tourist train.

The cars, two built for the GN and one built for the Union Pacific (although later sold to GN), were part of the URHS collection and were leased to the embattled Iowa Pacific, which abandoned them in Mississippi with a number of other pieces of equipment. URHS was forced to sell some of the equipment in order to repair and move other pieces.

Congratulations to the current leadership at URHS who has made the best of one of the lousy situations there. These cars will be safe from vandals and the torch in the near future. Given the many threads on "Preservation is dying" and "How do we cultivate interest amongst the earlier in career generation", I want to point out that the guy responsible for working this deal and who has two hands on the shovel cleaning out the mess in Boonton is in his mid twenties. His dedication and determination are admirable.

I wonder if anything else of URHS's equipment is making it out of MS, including the LV-painted former C&NW F-7s. https://railfan.com/iowa-pacific-deal-l ... ing-costs/
