The Western Railway Museum has a pair of New York Elevated cars; that had a second life as Maritime Commission cars during WWII.

Before the cars got to Rio Vista, they had the yellow art glass broken out of the clerestory windows. A member knew that Farmer Brown's eggs has some other similar cars that he was using to house his birds. He collected enough glass to replace our missing yellow glass panes.

So we have some glass in these ancient cars; which were built in 1887, that came from chicken coops!

By the way, I like the term for any after railway use of a railroad car.

If i recall correctly...Baltimore Streetcar Museum's 1859 Horse car was found on a farm during the early 1970's and donated to the museum. They have no plans to restore it as if they did they would probably have to replace more than half the wood in the car so they display it as is. While i can't confirm that it was used as a chicken coop it sure looks like it was.
