Congrats to Will Harris ( CEO VMT ) Scott Lindsay ( CMO, 611) and the entire VMT team for a job well done.

You'll be amazed at all the work that has been done on the ground to transform the sleepy Hamlet of Goshen, Va. into the new Victoria Station which will be the home base for Va. mainline steam going forward.

Onward & upward. Ross Rowland

Hang on - isn't a little early to make that proclamation? Let's see these trips sell out first...otherwise who is to say this would even be an annual thing?

No it is not. Bigjim you're missing the big picture here. Mr. Harris has made a substantial personal investment utilizing his own land to build a new 1500 ft. siding ( laid with 132 lb. rail, heavily ballasted and machine tamped), a parking lot capable of handling 500 cars, a boarding platform and more.

Still to come......an enginehouse, turntable and water column.

When it's completed Victoria Station in Goshen, Va. will truly be the new national HQ for mainline steam.

We all owe Will Harris a big thank you for his willingness to invest so heavily in mainline steams future.

Oh...well that's new news (to me, anyway) - where did you find out that info? From the man himself?

I heard they're even building a large bedside table and a locking drawer to store it in! Big things indeed.

Why would you need a locking drawer to store a bedside table in? And will the style of the table (to say nothing of the drawer it goes in and the lock that secures it) be historically accurate for Goshen? This is an angle of serious preservationism as yet unknown to me.

On second thought, never mind. Sammy explained it to me.

At least this shuts up anyone still whining about where 5550 might operate.

Speaking of which -- did we ever determine whether accurate drawings of the Cotton Belt 4-8-4 whistles still existed? The ones designed by an organ company? I'd be interested in them if so.

Since 5550 was mentioned (assuming that's the replica T1), it could get interesting because T1 5539 was tested over this segment of C&O in Sept 1946. History and ghosts and all that??

Assuredly will be interesting to see whether loading and running the locomotive correctly produces different (and better) results...

Saw a video of the test run to Staunton, and saw a passenger car named "Augusta." Do any of you know the heritage of the car?
