Same question as below, but for the old Rail City museum in Sandy Pond, NY. I know some relics still hide there, and there was an acution of tank engines when I was in grad school at Syracuse in 1992. But what about the stuff that left in the 60's and 70's?

Anyone have a full roster?

I do not have a full roster of all of the equipement that was there. With time and research I can come up with most of the rolling stock and what happened to it. Of the 9 locomotives that were there in the fall of 1991 only one has been scrapped. (a Baldwin 0-6-0) A Vulcan 0-4-0T has been restored and will be operated in Owosso, MI this coming year. The other 7 engines have all found new homes. They are either displayed or stored with the idea of getting them to run again which I doubt will happen with most of them.

Here is what I have on the steam locomotives from the former Rail City Museum at Sandy Pond, NY.

Huntington & Broad Top Mountain 2-8-0 38
Sold in 1968 to the Livonia Avon & Lakeville RR in NY. Sold in 1977 to Gettysburg RR in PA. Transfered (approx?) 1987 to Knox & Kane RR in PA.

Bath & Hammondsport 2-6-0 11 (nee-Narragansett Pier RR)
Operated at Rail City until the early 70's. Sold in 1977 to the Narragansett Pier RR in RI, resold later to the Middletown & New Jersey RR in NY.

Defiance Coal narrow gauge 0-4-0 1
Sold to private owner, restored to operation, placed on trailer with rollers under wheels for stationary operation. More recently donated by RR Museum of Long Island.

The other steam locomotives were ex-Solvay Process Company. All except one were 0-4-0Ts. Dispositions as follows.

47, New York Museum of Transportation
49, Steve Hall, Manns Choice, PA
53, Central NY Chapter NRHS, Central Square, NY

47 and 63 had left Rail City at a earlier date.

75 has been restored to operating condition by Mr. Gramling. It's now lettered for its original owner, Flagg Coal.

Ex-Solvay Process 0-4-0T 51 is/was supposed to be/have been at Rail City. Not sure about this one.

The other ex-Solvay Process Co. engine was a 0-6-0 tender engine, 25. It was scrapped at the Rail City location in 1993.

Here is a picture of the 47 at the New York Museum of Transportation. The locomotive had a new cab put on it by museum volunteers and is on display inside the NYMT's car barn. Visitors can climb into the cab, look inside the firebox, sit in the engineer's seat and ring the bell and ring the bell and ring the bell...

No. 51 Was sold to Gordon Bell (Three Valley Gap Resort) Revelstoke, BC Canada

No. 57 Was sold to Leo Smasal Sedalia, MO

These two engines left Rail City in 1992

No. 55 Was sold to General Crushed Stone at Jamesville, NY sometime before 1991. It is on display there at the Jamesville Quarry. This is the quarry where the engines were used and from which Dr. Groman (Rail City) bought them in 1953.

No. 75 belongs to and was restored by John AND Byron Gramling. Byron (Barney) was the one that got us started on the restoration.
