To clarify that discussion:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=47627

which say "proposed" I stumbled on this document say "approved":

https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/case-case-determ ... ocomotives

In short they replace

a)
#52 GE 65 ton
#57 GE 80 ton
#72 Alco FPA4
-> for one KLW Tier4 with MTU engine

b)
#62 Alco RS11
#69 EMD GP9R
#70 Alco FPA4
-> for one KLW Tier4 with MTU engine

That leaves the Alco FPA4 #71 and #73 undecited yet.
Hurry up maybe you can make a bargain for your institution...

PS.: Donˋt tell anybody! Very clever give them the scrap ones for new...

Don't worry. They'll make certain that the prime movers are drilled in a manner where the unit won't run under power ever again. They're chopping up iconic Crown buses to prevent them from ever being used again-what makes us think they won't do the same to locomotive prime movers?

I've already heard from one person trying to get the Grand Canyon Railway interested in acquiring some of the Napa MLWs. This person was sadly unaware that negotiations are under way to sell the remaining GCRY FPA4's and parts to the only OTHER user of such power on a regular basis in the USA........... or that there's no bloody chance in heck of being able to evade rendering the engine blocks of the Napa units unusable in the future.

Oddly, I've also heard suggestions and insinuations that the Delaware-Lackawanna in Pennsylvania "should" be interested in acquiring a pair or so for their "collection." I'm quite positive that's just all "wishful thinking" on foamers' part, however.........

Here is an excellent video descriping how the california exchange

–>real money
for
–>disabeling dirty locomotive

works.
(It shows the journey to bring one of the EMD F40s from the San Diego Coaster to PSRM
in Campo, CA.)

Be aware!
Nobody is forced to do this!
But when you want that grant...you habe to do something in return...nothing is for free...
especially in the US...
