Question brought up in another subject thread about the painting of former SLSF Russian Decapod #1621 at the Museum of Transport and rather than send a photo of that engine and its modified tender there, I thought I would put it here.

Can you tell us the date when that photo was made? During my 10 years at the museum it was that way some of the time and the name on the tender was removed and Frisco was painted on the side of the cab some of the time. White driver tires were and weren't there also at times.

Always a favorite of mine. Years ago MR had included a plan and several pictures of one in Eagle Pitcher service.

Ron -

Don't recall the exact date of my visit to MoT, but it was just before Thanksgiving of last year (November 2023).

This was how 1621 looked when dedicated to the MOT. Frisco had sold several of them to EP. EP cut down the tender sides to make vision better when backing up. EP painted them like this and the crew at Lindenwood decorated 1621 with the EP logo on the tender.
Only other change while at the MOT is I took a couple of the 1522 guys and lowered the headlight about 6 inches. Should have moved it more to where it was on the Frisco. It was lettered Frisco.
I had heard they put the brakeman's doghouse back on the tender (It originally was on 1522 and removed when the Frisco cosmetically restored, but sent along with the engine. It laid in the weeds for many years.
Interesting fact is that 1621 has no flues, tubes or superheater units inside the boiler. EP was preparing her for overhaul when they ceased steam operations.

The Frisco inadvertently saved a whole lot of work for the day it might be looked at again. Chances are the super heater units would need replacing anyway. Interesting tidbit of info. Thank you. John.

Of the Russian Decapods that Eagle-Picher purchased from the Frisco (numbers 1615, 1621, 1625, 1630 and 1632) all five have been preserved. Nice!
