Found the below passenger car photo. A heavyweight semi-streamlined caboose?

This car is in Rockford, IL. It is from the Milwaukee Rd. and was probably one of their home shop rebuilds. Looked like it was modified for MOW service---second half was a kitchen?

Chris is right. The car is still in Rockord, IL on private property adjacent to the (former) Milwaukee Road yard. Recent highway work in the vicinity has isolated this and other cars on the site from the rail network, so it will be there for a while (or until scrapped in situ - CERCLA remediation of the site is required and the owner is under pressure to remove the equipment). I have been in the car - it is a kitbashed Pullman converted to MofW service with a new end fabricated at Milwaukee Shops using the 1934-pattern streamlined coach design.

What other cars are there? Anything of interest to the preservation community?

There are two Milwaukee Road baggage cars, one Milwaukee RPO, a Milwaukee Road diesel powered derrick with idler flat car, a BRC steam powered derrick with idler flat car and two IC 2600 class tenders.

To amplify Dennis's posting a bit, the three MILW head-end cars in Rockford are:

MILW X437 - This car was built at Milwaukee Shops in 1936 as 22-seat, 1 drawing room parlor car Wawa for the 1937 Hiawatha, then converted to Storage Car 1952, plan #A-6056 in October of 1952. This car is in the best condition of the three with no obvious holes in the doors or carbody.

MILW 917202 - This car was built at Milwaukee Shops as Express Car 1301 in October of 1936 and other than changes in the lower side sheet and new doors is in “original” condition. It was converted to work service in August of 1978. This car has some deterioration of the side sheet at the side sill, especially on the west side. The doors, though 10+ years newer than the carbody, have not held up very well. This car has a badly damaged draft gear pocket at the south end.

MILW X430, originally built at Milwaukee Shops as Express-RPO 1216 in 1947. Although the newest of the three cars and all original, it is in the worst condition with perforated side sheets at the side sill level. The interior isnÂ’t in good shape either.

Above notes from a field inspection trip regarding possible donation/sale of these cars to the Monticello Railway Museum. Compass direction references are to orientation of the cars on the site.

As related in previous posts, the owner needs to move the cars so environmental remediation can begin at the site. The owner is very desirous of seeing the cars restored as MILW equipment. Due to the mechanical condition of the cars and the isolation of the site, it would probably be more economical to truck them out.

I just learned that these cars, plus a SOO Line caboose (#580) located there also, are going to the Colfax RR Museum in Colfax, WI. The group may also take the Milwaukee crane located there, if they can raise enough funds to move it too.

This appears to be most of an old 10-1-(-) sleeping car, and a short piece of a lightweight, open-platform branch line combine. The combos were built at the Milwaukee shops (in Milwaukee) in the mid-1930s. This bizarre mating must have been done in the 50s/60s, when combines for mixed trains were no longer in demand.

Does anyone know the name of the sleeper?

I was on the property with the owner and a couple of other people on Saturday, May 17. I walked both sides of the car, attempting to determine a name or number but was unable to identify either. It truly is a strange creation that makes you wonder why it was built by a Class 1 carrier. A high school metal shop teacher on acid.........maybe.
