Off-topic, but historical and interesting piece I found on the Narrow Gauge Discussion Forum. Here's what it took to pass a six-hour test to complete the 8th grade in Salina, Kansas in 1895:

How many of us educated college boys could pass this today? I know I'd have to study more...
