I am not associated, it was reposted on AOTT facebook:

"This SW-1 cab was saved from a locomotive that we salvaged for parts that were used on B&O 8408, LV 112, and our former PRR 9206. Over the years several heritage rail lines and private collectors, have shown an interest in the cab, but to date no one has purchased it. We have moved the cab many times around the outside storage yard, and had to do it again today to make room for a project that will be arriving on Monday 12/14/20. If the SW-1 cab has not been sold by 12/23/20, it will be scrapped on 12/28/20."

Here’s yet ANOTHER one of those, “We just decided this needs to go, so it must be gone in three… two… one…”
That’d make for the neatest shed ever, but as they waited too long to realistically get anyone out there to buy and then crane the thing away, I bet it’ll be cut up. Again, just because it sat around forever and then they decided it has to be gone yesterday...

"Sorry, this content isn't available at this time"

So did someone claim it?

Did anyone contact the group that obviously would be in need of one--the owners of the Monon SW1 that got damaged in transit? (And their hands may be tied by insurance--there's been many the time where I rejected an insurance payout with lots of strings attached for a far more expedient and common-sense solution or repair, or told off the insurance company with "the repair estimate you wanted me to do was $972; I took care of it with a $60 visit to the junkyard for parts and two hours with my tools; how about you pay me $300 for saving you $672?")

Perhaps more blame should go to other parties that allegedly said they would take it and didn't follow through? (Online markets such as Craigslist, eBay, etc. are notorious for such lack of follow-through.)

And now you start to see why even a "fellow" preservation group might be charged a deposit even if a donation were involved......

I have no idea if you mean something RR-related, but when it comes to auto insurance, you can always just cash out for how much the carrier was going to pay a pro to do the work. In the end, it doesn't matter to the insurance carrier as to who's name is on the check if it's the same amount either way.
This is almost 20 years in claims talking.

There were some comments by rivet counters on the AOTT post where I first saw it that this cab is a bit different than the Monon cab (arched windows on the latter, for example) but still that would be a much simpler modification than building one from scratch. I would bet the owner of the cab is aware of the Monon unit as well, and is asking more for it than he would get if "it will be scrapped on 12/28/20."
