The Grand Canyon Railway in Williams Arizona has several positions open in the Mechanical Shop. Our senior staff is quickly approaching retirement age, and some young energetic individuals are needed to see the operation into the the future.

We operate one passenger train from Williams to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon each day, with additional movements for Polar Express and other special events. Motive power is mostly F-40 diesels, with 2 steam locomotives being used about 12 times a year. Ridership, including all special events, is close to 300,000 annually.

These are the positions we currently have available:

Machinist - must pass a company issued hands on welding test using manually operated lathes and mills. The ability to accurately machine threads is a must. Mechanical experience and interest is a plus. This position will also be responsible for assisting with the newly created wheel shop.

Welder (2 slots) - Must pass a company issued 3G welding test. The senior welder must be proficient in Tig welding with experience using stainless steel.

Railcar Mechanic (2 slots) - this position works on passenger railcars. Experience with construction, plumbing, woodworking, or mechanics is a plus.

Electrician - need to be able to read and interpret an electrical schematic for troubleshooting

Shop Apprentice - this is a seasonal position that expires after one year. It's designed for someone with mechanical interest but little practical experience to get their foot in the door. A successful candidate will have the opportunity to secure a permanent position at the conclusion of the seasonal position.

For more information and to apply, visit www.thetrain.com

I'd be happy to answer more questions on the positions: hadder@thetrain.com, but you must apply through the website.
