Texas cranes for sale

Texas Tank Car Works at San Angelo, TX has all but two of their cranes for sale. Odds are they will get the torch. Two year old Google Earth images show the yard nearly abandoned. Anybody down that way have any details?

Have not been in there for a few years, but the last time I was there, they had, I believe an 80 inch wheel lathe, a big former ATSF crane and a business car on site. Railroad wise, they are out in the middle of no where, but they had a good reputation for their work.

Another note: I believe that lathe has the capability to turn steam locomotive drivers and if so, is the only one I know of in the state of Texas that can, unless they made the one at Texas State Railroad operable.

Hmmmm...the boys in Austin with ASTA ought to jump on that 80" wheel lathe for safe keeping and/or future locomotive projects!

Was in San Angelo on other business today and dropped by the shop. They are still quite busy with wheel work and other projects.

The 80 inch wheel lathe is long gone, bought by Amtrak several years ago. However, the do have a wheel lathe capable of turning anything up to 56 inches. Cranes are still on site, as well as a former CSX business car and BN caboose.

310 "Georgia" was built in 1912 as a dining car. It was rebuilt as Atlantic Coast Line 310, office car. It became SCL 310 "Georgia" in July 1967 and became Seaboard System 310 "Georgia" in January 1983. It became CSX Transportation 310 "Georgia" in April 1986 and sold to Texas Tank Car Works. At one time was for sale by D F Barhardt & Assoc.

Also in the yard as of 2009 was an ex-MP lightweight bag.

Also, at one time KCS 80, an ex ASTF heavyweight bag, and KCS 101 Business Car were there. Are they still there?

Thanks, Tavor, for the identification of CSX #310 Georgia!

Here's what I can piece together on the #310 after conversing with Jerry and checking my sources:

The #310 was renumbered from #306, which had been renumbered from #308 (1st), which was rebuilt in 1948 from US Army hospital #89320 (AC&F, Lot #2733, 1944).
